A Campbell County animal rescue is mourning the loss of a pregnant dog that they think was abandoned.
Friends of Campbell County Animal Control said a middle-aged pug mix they named Little Mama was brought into the shelter on Sunday after volunteers finished their dog walking.
Little Mama got an X-Ray that showed two extra-large unborn puppies inside of her.
They said an ultrasound showed that the puppies were dead and they were poisoning Little Mama’s body.Friends of Campbell County Animal Control knew Little Mama was going to die if they didn’t do anything so they got the okay for them to stabilize and do emergency surgery.
Little Mama didn’t make it despite life-saving efforts.
The animal shelter shuddered at the thought of what would have happened if they hadn’t found Little Mama.
They think Little Mama had gone into labor but couldn’t deliver the extra-large puppies.
Thinking of her agony and the babies struggling to be born, we can be thankful she is no longer suffering. But we wish we could have saved her. We want to save them all.
